(Host) While the five Democratic candidates for governor have been scrambling for votes these past few weeks, Republican candidate Brian Dubie managed to get away to the Adirondacks on a recent weekend where he met former President George W. Bush.
Dubie and Bush were the guests of Harlan Crow, a Dallas, Texas real estate investor who owns an estate in the Adirondacks. Dubie spokewoman Kate Duffy said Dubie and the former president chatted about Vermont - the only state Bush did not visit when he was president.
(Duffy) Brian was honored to meet the president, just as he was honored to meet President Clinton on several occasions actually. They talked about how great Vermont is and how Brian is looking forward to being elected its next governor.
(Host) Duffy said Dubie was invited to Crow's estate by a friend, Dan Branch, a Texas congressman.
Harlan Crow -the Texan who hosted the get-together- is known for his close ties to the national Republican party. But Duffy said the event was not a fundraiser.
