Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson and Herman Melville: Three writers whose work couldn’t be more different. But a new book by Dartmouth Professor Emeritus William Spengemann spells out the things they have in common—specifically, their attempts through poetry to understand a rapidly changing world. The book is called, simply, Three American Poets, and Professor Spengemann spoke with VPR's Peter Biello about it.
