A German high-technology company is going to close its Vermont plant in Waterbury Center and 80 people will be out of work.

Suss MicroTec says the Waterbury plant will be closed by the end of the year and its manufacturing operation will move to Germany. Its marketing and service division will move to California.

The Burlington Free Press says the company's decision takes into account its space requirements and production demands.

The company set up shop in Waterbury in 1980.
