Vermont businesses and organizations are being asked to be "information ambassadors" under a new program organized by the state Department of Tourism and Marketing.

Governor Jim Douglas, announced the program Monday, saying participating businesses will agree to post a new blue "info" sign, and give out maps and other information about sights to see in their area.

Douglas says the businesses benefit by generating more visitor traffic for themselves.

Businesses and organizations will be required to complete a training with the state and display basic information to the traveling public such as guidebooks, maps and a bathroom facility in order to be eligible to display the sign in front of their establishment.
