Former AHS Secretary Says Cuts Will Be Difficult
Friday, 03/12/10 7:50am
"Challenges for Change" is a bill lawmakers in Montpelier passed earlier this legislative session. It targets $38 million in savings to help deal with an estimated $150 million hole in the state budget.
The $38 million in "Challenges for Change" is slated to come from the state's General Fund, through the creation of efficiencies, which critics of the plan say is just code for "cuts" and those critics are worried that the cuts will have a serious impact on human service programs.
VPR's Mitch Wertlieb gets some perspective from Con Hogan, who served as Secretary of the Agency of Human Services under Governors Richard Snelling and Howard Dean.
