Montpelier Votes For Decriminalization

Montpelier, VT
(Host) Montpelier officials were easily re-elected on Tuesday despite a controversy about an overpayment to a contractor.
City officials waited several years before disclosing that they'd overpaid the contractor by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
But Mayor Mary Hooper easily held off a challenge. And City Council member Nancy Sherman won re-election against two challengers.
The city's municipal budget and its school budget also passed.
And, Montpelier voters say the state should decriminalize marijuana possession.
The nonbinding resolution says Vermont should make possession of small amounts of marijuana punishable only by a civil fine, not by criminal charges.
