Jacobellis Disqualified In Semifinals
Another big disappointment for Stratton Mountain's Lindsey Jacobellis -- the U.S. snowboardcross favorite lost her balance after a jump and went outside a gate in the semifinals to get disqualified. She was hoping for redemption after losing the gold medal in Turin four years ago. Jacobellis won the consolation race to place fifth overall.
Also in competition yesterday, New York natives Tim Burke and Lowell Bailey both took part in the men's 12.5k pursuit biathlon. Another disappointing finish, Bailey of Lake Placid came in 36th and Tim Burke finished 46th. Some had hoped the U.S. would win it's first medal in the sport, but it wasn't to be. The highest ranked American Jeremy Teela finished in 24th place.
Bode Miller of New Hampshire and Andrew Weibrecht of Lake Placid had planned to compete in the men's downhill super combined yesterday, but that event was rescheduled for Sunday due to bad weather.
The person to watch today is Andy Newell of Shaftsbury. He'll compete in the men's individual cross country sprints.
