Dartmouth To Accept Haitian Students

(Host) Dartmouth College says it will accept a group of Haitian students whose education has been interrupted by the devastating earthquake there. 

Dartmouth President Jim Yong Kim says at this point it's unclear how many students from Haiti will be attending the college.  

(Kim) "We won't charge them tuition and our expectation is that members of the Upper Valley community will probably host them.  We'll do everything we can so that their educational experience is not interrupted.  If there's one thing Haiti does not need is to have its leaders have their educations thwarted in this process."

(Host) Kim says the request to host the students in Hanover came from Dr. Paul Farmer and former President Bill Clinton. 

Farmer is a founding director of the Boston based Partners in Health, an organization Kim helped create. The group provides health care in the developing world.

 Dartmouth provided a similar service to a group of students displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
