The chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is telling Vermont's congressional delegation that his agency is keeping close tabs on the tritium leak at Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.
In a letter to Senators Patrick Leahy, Bernie Sanders and Congressman Peter Welch, Gregory Jaczko said federal regulators will continue to review and assess any impact on the environment as more data becomes available about the contamination of groundwater on the grounds of Vermont Yankee.
He says the NRC will make sure Entergy Nuclear works diligently to identify the source of the tritium.
