Each year in October, Vermont students at certain grade levels sit down to take the NECAP test, or New England Common Assessment Program. On Tuesday, the annual test results were released and showed that 69% of high school students are proficient in reading, about half are proficient in writing, and only 35% of Vermont high school students are proficient in math.

VPR's Jane Lindholm talks with Education Commissioner Armando Vilaseca about what the results mean for schools, parents and for the academic achievement of the students.
