A little over a year ago, a church in the Rutland County town of Wells found itself in the international spotlight when National Geographic included it in a book about the 500 most ‘peaceful and powerful' destinations in the world.

Next to most of the other religious sites in the book, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wells is modest. Each Sunday a congregation of about 30 people worships in the simple, unadorned building on the village green.

VPR's Steve Zind paid a visit to find out how it earned a spot on National Geographic's list.
