Rockingham, Bellows Falls Table Merger Plans
Thursday, 01/14/10 6:06am
The town of Rockingham and the village of Bellows Falls have tabled a plan to merge.
The two boards held a special meeting on Tuesday to vote on the merger and plan for a Town Meeting Day vote on the proposal. But in the end they opted not to go forward after several financial questions were raised about additional costs.
The boards decided to put off the plan after questions were raised about additional costs to run the Bellows Falls police and fire departments.
The Brattleboro Reformer says just last week the boards had agreed to draft a merger plan and let voters have the final say on merging the village and town.
