Amtrak had record-breaking ridership on Thanksgiving week, including strong showings on some New England routes.

Amtrak announced Tuesday that it had 685,876 passengers over the holiday travel week, beating the old record of 666,716 set in 2007.

The route between New Haven, Conn., and Springfield, Mass., had 10,604 passengers. That was a 10.9 percent increase from 2008.

The Vermonter run between Washington and northern Vermont had 2,612 riders, an 11 percent increase from the previous year.

Other New England routes had less impressive showings. The Downeaster between Portland, Maine, and Boston had 9,694 passengers, 2 percent fewer than in 2008. The Ethan Allen route between New York City and Rutland, Vt., saw 1,515 riders, 7.2 percent fewer than the previous year.
