The Putney General store was destroyed by fire overnight.
It was the second time in 18 months that the store, which dated to the 1700s and was once considered the state's longest continually operating general store, was hit by fire.
WCAX-television says repairs to the store from the 2008 fire were nearly complete when the structure was completely destroyed Sunday night and early Monday.
The Putney Historical Society had purchased the damaged building with the help of a $200,000 community block grant.
There were no injuries in the latest fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
