The Vermont Health Department says swine flu is now "widespread" across the state.

The Health Department says the increased activity level is based on influenza surveillance data. And additional H1N1 flu samples have been confirmed at the health department lab in Burlington.

There have been delays in getting enough vaccine to vaccinate people thought to be at high risk of complications from the swine flu.

Health Commissioner Dr. Wendy Davis says the shortage is forcing the delay of a number of school-based clinics.

The Health Department is urging Vermonters to take precautions to keep the flu from spreading: People should wash their hands, cover their mouths when coughing and stay home when sick.
