Options
The Arctic Ocean is one of the most remote and unforgiving locations on the planet, and Betsy Baker has been there twice.
Last summer we spoke with Baker about her first trip to the Arctic, and
her role in mapping areas of the extended Continental Shelf. During that
2008 expedition Baker and a team of scientists aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Healy examined a geologic feature close to the center of the
Arctic, where the shelf drops off into an extremely deep chasm.
Baker went back to the Arctic again this summer, and just recently returned, and she spokle with VPR's Mitch Wertlieb about how this expedition differed from her trip in 2008:
