Longtime Vermont farm closing
Tuesday, 09/29/09 8:38am
A family farm in Wilmington, Vt., is closing for good on Oct. 31, saying it can no longer afford to stay in business.
Adams Family Farm has existed since 1865. It was a dairy farm until the 1980s, when the family opted to participate in a buyout program.
WCAX-TV reports Jill Adams Mancivalano, a leader in the state's agritourism industry, and her husband opened the farm year-round in 1993.
At one point, the farm drew 20,000 visitors a year. However, fewer people have been visiting. The summer's rainy weather and the down economy also have hurt, and so the family decided it could no longer afford to run the farm.
