Lawmakers to hear about Health Department rule
Tuesday, 09/15/09 8:34am
A long-simmering debate over radiation emitted by Vermont Yankee nuclear plant is coming to a head at the Vermont Statehouse.
The Legislature's Administrative Rules Committee is to take testimony Tuesday about a rule drafted by the state Health Department governing measurements of radiation at the plant's boundary.
The Health Department got into hot water with lawmakers last year when it made it easier for Vermont Yankee to stay below radiation limits without getting lawmakers' approval.
Now they're back to get that approval. Committee Chairman Richard Marek says there have been about 700 written comments from the public - an unusually high number.
