That was one message shared at a public hearing Thursday led by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on energy efficiency and renewable energy in Vermont.
The participants in the hearing said the state spends about $40 million a year on Efficiency Vermont, a statewide program designed to save electricity while weatherization and other heating efficiency efforts get only about $4 million to $5 million in annual funding.
Sanders heard from a range of experts in the field who said that stepping up efficiency efforts and renewable like solar and wind can generate thousands of jobs in Vermont in the coming decade.
