NH Legislature passes $11.5 billion budget
The New Hampshire Legislature has approved an $11.5 billion budget for the two years starting July 1.
Both the House and Senate approved bills Wednesday detailing the spending portion of the budget as well as the tax and fee hikes to pay for it. The Senate voted 13-11 on both bills. In the 400-member House, the spending bill passed by 19 votes and the revenue bill by 18 votes.
House and Senate negotiators wrapped up work on the budget last week. The key differences between the chambers were over revenue measures, not spending.
The House refused to accept a Senate plan to legalize video slots. Instead, negotiators backed a variety of smaller tax and fee hikes and directed Gov. John Lynch to make $25 million in personnel reductions.
