A group that spent the past two years coming up with ideas to guide Vermont's future now wants to get some of those proposals
implemented.
VPR's Ross Sneyd reports.
(Sneyd) The Council on the Future of Vermont traveled around the state holding forums and workshops. It commissioned surveys and in-depth studies.
The goal was to find out what matters to Vermonters and what they'd like their state to look like in another 10 or 20 years.
The council has come to a series of conclusions on everything from maintaining the state's culture to the economy to health and transportation.
Sarah Waring of the council says some specific policy changes have been recommended to the legislature and the administration.
(Waring) "But in addition to that we think it would be a tremendous success if these ideas become implemented or strengthen the models and work that's already going on at the community level. It's not just at the state level that work has to happen. It's also regionally and town by town. Some of these things are very important to small towns in Vermont."
(Sneyd) So the council will take its ideas and recommendations to communities in the hope of inspiring more work.
A meeting will be held in each county around the state over the next month or so. The first event is later this week in Randolph.
