Interview: Eric Segalstad on "The 27's"

In the world of rock and roll, the number 27 has taken on a near-mythological status.

An unusually high number of musicians have died at the age of 27, from legends like Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, to lesser-known artists from groups such as The Minutemen and Big Star.

Vermont author Eric Segalstad examines this phenomenon in the book, "The 27's-The Greatest Myth of Rock and Roll".

The book, co-authored by Josh Hunter, is both an inside look at what musicians refer to as "The 27 Club," and an illustrated min-history of rock music.

Eric Segalstad lives in Burlington.  He spoke with VPR's Neal Charnoff about his book.
