Soft economy a boom to Vt. community colleges
A soft economy may be helping the Community College of Vermont.
Enrollment is on the rise and high school counselors say students are paying closer attention to the fiscal merits of a two-year school.
Spring semester rolls are up 9.4 percent from the fall's 6,496 students. Last spring 6,175 students were enrolled.
A dean at the school says the college can handle the growth.
CCV Dean of Enrollment Susan Henry says the college can easily rent another classroom and find another instructor.
Henry says the college operates on an annual budget of about $24 million. It features 12 campuses statewide plus an online classroom. The college employs about 600 part-time faculty members and 140 staff members.
