Town meetings getting underway
Tuesday, 03/03/09 7:04am
Town Meeting days are here, with Vermont voters heading out to gymnasiums, town halls and school cafeterias to help decide how their local governments are run.
In Vernon, the agenda includes a vote on saving a struggling newspaper. In Plainfield, voters will consider banning fluoridated water. In about three dozen towns, residents will weigh in on whether Vermont Yankee should get to stay open past its scheduled closing in 2012.
The annual ritual has a new wrinkle this year. Vermonters now have the right to ask for an unpaid day off from work to participate.
