Since the first constitutionally-mandated census in 1790, the US census has been gathering increasingly complex information about economic status, race and ethnicity, procreation patterns and much more. Now the way in which much of the data is collected and released is changing. It's called the American Community Survey, and this new data source for most of Vermont's counties has just been released.
Chip Sawyer manages the Vermont Data Center, whose mission is to help Vermonters access and accurately use data provided by the US Census Bureau. He spoke with VPR's Jane Lindholm about the changes.
