(Host) During the next few weeks during Morning Edition and All Things Considered, VPR will revisit some of the "Sounds of 2008."

We'll recall some of the top news stories of the year, and we'll hear again some of the voices that distinguished 2008.

We begin with one of the consistent sounds of last winter ... Snowplows and front-end loaders were busy day after day, hauling away the record snow.

By February, Eric Barkyoumb's (bar-cum) road crew in Essex was pushing the snow back from street corners so drivers could see what was coming at them.

(Barkyoumb)"Getting ready for the next storm - another six inches plus ... so getting ready for the next time and hopefully the time after that.'' (:13)

(Host) You can hear more Sounds of 2008 at 7:35 and again today during All Things Considered.
