Welch crusies to re-election

(Host) Congressman Peter Welch easily won re-election to a second term.

Welch faced only token opposition and was able to win nearly 85 percent of the vote.

Welch told the Democratic victory party that he believes Congress and the new Obama administration will deliver on promises of change.

(Welch) ``What this election is about is important things, like restoring our middle class, like restoring and reviving our reputation in the world, like fighting for a new energy economy. But, you know, what we fight for is something even more important. It is the conviction that people who love their country can change their country.''

(Host) No Republicans got into the race against Welch. His most prominent challenger was an Iraq War veteran, who represented the Progressive Party.
