It's
a number one ranking, but certainly not one the state of Vermont wants. A recent study by the College Board found that
Vermont tops the nation in costs for higher education. The
state's average in-state tuition and fees were $11,300 - up
over 8 percent over last year.
The figures result from the averaged tuitions of the Vermont State Colleges and the University of Vermont.
Vermont State College Chancellor Robert Clarke says he wasn't surprised that Vermont has the highest education costs in the country because schools receive the lowest amount of available state funding.
