Town clerks ready for big turnout tomorrow

Monday November 3, 2008
Nina Keck

Chittenden, VT

(Host)   Town clerks across the state are gearing up for tomorrow's election. And they've been dealing with an increase of early voters. VPR's Nina Keck checked in with the Chittenden Town Clerk. Roberta Janowski says they're expecting a big turnout.

(Janowski)  "We're getting really excited in here about this presidential election.    People are in here in big numbers wanting to vote early and register to vote - we've had quite an increase in that.   Our last day to register was Wednesday at 5 o'clock.   So people are going to be disappointed when they walk in here today and find out they still can't register."

"(phone rings) Chittenden Town Clerk's office - hi. . . . . "

(Janowski) "Well I can't wait for it to be over for 2 reasons (laughs).   One is we're getting tired in here because it's a lot of work preparing for an election.   The other reason is I'm just so excited.  I want my candidate to win - the person I've chosen to win and I can't wait for that to happen and to see that happen. . . . . Our polls will open at 10 in the morning until 7.   We're looking forward to a big turnout.   And the girls who are preparing the bake sale are really looking forward to a big turnout so (laughs) so, we're just hoping to see everyone come out."

(Outro) Polls open as early at 7 a.m. in some locations towns tomorrow.
