RSSVermont primary drew only 8.5 percent turnout

It's official: Voter turnout in last week's Vermont primary election was only 8.5 percent, which officials say is the lowest in recent memory.
Secretary of State Deb Markowitz says 36,716 of the state's registered voters cast ballots in the election, almost two-thirds of them in the Democratic primary.
Markowitz says there were not many contested races on the ballot, so a lot of people stayed home.
A total of 23,499 people voted in the Democratic primary, 12,444 in the Republican primary, 470 in the Progressive Party primary and 172 in the Liberty Union primary.
