(Host) Crime was down 3% in Vermont last year.
The Vermont Criminal Information Center says that reverses a trend from 2006, when the crime rate rose significantly.
The total numbers of crimes were still higher than they were in 2005.
One category of crimes did rise over the past year. There were 963 cases of domestic violence in 2007. That was an increase of seven percent from the year before.
Another area that caught researchers' attention was the amount of losses from property crime. Losses totaled $23 million, a 7% rise.
The Criminal Information Center says that can be explained in part by several large crimes, including fraud.
