Rockingham considers restrictions on sex offenders
Wednesday, 09/03/08 7:04am and 7:04am
Rockingham may become at least the third community in Vermont to restrict where sex offenders live.
On Tuesday, the Selectboard adopted a draft ordinance that would make certain areas of town off-limits to sex offenders.
Rutland and Barre recently passed similar ordinances in the wake of the kidnapping and death of 12-year-old Brooke Bennett this summer.
In Rockingham, sex offenders would be prohibited from living within one-thousand feet of a school, recreation facility or licensed day care center, and would be banned from visiting those facilities.
The town will hold a public hearing on the proposal but no date has been set.
