RSSThe town of Swanton, Vermont feels as if it's surrounded by water. The town is on the northern shores of Lake Champlain, and the Missisquoi River winds its way through the town, creating the Swanton Falls, before eventually feeding into the Lake. That easy access to water led to the town's rich history. The area is considered the homeland territory for the Abenaki, and Swanton claims to be the oldest continuously occupied community in Vermont. The town is also renowned for its distinctive red marble, and its early days as a railroad town.
As part of our ongoing series of audio postcards from Vermont towns, we visit the northern Franklin County town. We begin by stopping by the village green, which is home to something that no other Vermont town has.
