NH Poll: Year after troop surge, residents still opposed to Iraq war

A new poll shows that a year after the "surge" by U.S. troops in Iraq, and despite a decrease in American and Iraqi casualties, New Hampshire residents are strongly opposed to the war and are pessimistic about chances of eventual victory.
The findings are based on the latest Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.
Currently, 37 percent of those polled support the U.S. having gone to war in Iraq in the first place; 57 percent oppose the U.S. having gone to war and 6 percent are neutral. Solid majorities of Republicans and conservatives continue to support the war in Iraq.
The phone survey interviewed 519 adults between July 11 and July 20. 2008. The margin of sampling error for the survey is plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
