Pollina proposes credit card to benefit agriculture, energy projects

(Host) The Progressive Party candidate for governor wants to harness the power of consumers to jumpstart farm and energy projects.

Anthony Pollina proposed his idea for a new Vermont Credit Card yesterday. Under Pollina's plan, a percentage of each purchase made with the Vermont Card will be invested in a special fund to support local agricultural and energy projects.

Pollina says several non-profit groups use a similar credit card system to raise money for their organization. He says the Vermont card could generate about $1 million a year without raising taxes.

(Pollina) "The Vermont card is a new way to invest in Vermont and also to bring merchants to lower credit card processing fees so that we can save money for Vermont businesses."

(Host) Pollina also wants to establish a network of Vermont merchants and small businesses to tackle the growing expense of credit card fees.
