Audio Postcard: Townshend, VT

Monday June 30, 2008
Susan Keese

Townshend, VT

Townshend is in many respects the hub of southern Vermont's West River Valley. Leland and Gray, the Valley's union district high school, is there, as is Grace Cottage Hospital, the local medical facility.  As of this summer, Townshend is also home to a farmers' market, which sets up on the town common on Thursday afternoons.  VPR's Susan Keese stopped by recently and filed this postcard:

Editorial Note:  Eleven maple trees on the Townshend Town Common did fail to leaf out after being sprayed with fire retardant foam. The foam was used during the making of the 1988 Warner Brothers Film "Funny Farm," to create the illusion of snow. The studio's insurance paid to have new trees planted.
