Duke Energy buys Catamount Energy for $240 million

Friday June 27, 2008

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)

Duke Energy Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., says it has bought privately held Catamount Energy Corp. of Rutland, Vt., for about $240 million.

The acquisition will bolster the Charlotte-based utility's wind energy generation capability.

Catamount was formed in 1992. Since 2001, the company has developed wind projects in the United States and the United Kingdom. Catamount currently operates facilities providing 300 megawatts of renewable energy.

Duke purchased the company from private equity firm Diamond Castle Holdings LLC.
