Vermont looking for help to inventory state's barns

Friday June 20, 2008

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP)

The Vermont Division of Historic Preservation is looking for help in getting an inventory of the state's barns.

The state is seeking volunteers from all 251 of the state's towns for a barn census.

State Architectural Historian Nancy Boone says the goal is to determine the number and condition of Vermont's barns.

The volunteers will canvass areas, take photographs, note barn features and their conditions.

And the state is willing to train people about what they need to know.

A series of workshops are planned for Saturday at the Vermont History Expo in Tunbridge.

The first census will be conducted on August 2nd and 3rd. A second census will be held later this year.
