The National Championships of College Sailing get underway in Newport, Rhode Island today, and for the first time, the University of Vermont's sailing crew will be there.
The Catamounts are a quiet success story, riding a wave of recent regional victories to a top ten national ranking. Not bad for a club at a University far better known for its success in basketball and hockey than sailing.
Head Coach Justin Assad is also gaining recognition, recently voted as the New England Sailing Association coach of the year.
Assad says he's got high hopes for today's Spring co-ed National Dinghy Championships, and is thrilled that the UVM club has achieved its highest ever number 7 national ranking.
