Special paving program under way

Wednesday May 14, 2008

COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP)

Road crews will be out on Route 2A in Colchester today laying down the first pavement under this spring's special supplemental Vermont state paving program.

State officials announced "Operation Smooth Ride'' last month, under which the Agency of Transportation will put a thin overlay of payment over sections of road especially ravaged by years of neglect and a tough winter.

Operation Smooth Ride is not a replacement for the agency's normal summer paving program, but was added on this year due to heightened concerns this early spring about the condition of many of Vermont's roads.
