Former diplomat Peter Galbraith says he will not run for governor of Vermont.
The Democrat had been considering challenging Republican incumbent Gov. Jim Douglas.
But after outgoing House Speaker Gaye Symington announced her candidacy on Monday, Galbraith said he would back her instead.
Symington, a Democrat, faces Anthony Pollina, a Progressive and Douglas, who plans to seek re-election to a fourth term.
