(Host) A jury has awarded $8.7 million to a former altar boy who sued the Catholic Church over sexual abuse he says he suffered at the hands of a priest.
The 40-year-old man claimed a parish priest, Reverend Edward Paquette, routinely abused him while he was an altar boy at Christ the King church in Burlington in the 1970s.
The man's suit accused the Catholic Diocese of Burlington of hiring Paquette despite allegations he had molested boys in previous assignments.
After about four hours of deliberations, the Chittenden County Superior Court jury ruled in favor of the man, who now lives in Colorado.
