Vermont Yankee may become part of “Enexus”

Friday, 05/02/08 6:06am and 6:06am

The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant in Vernon may soon have a new corporate name.

Plant owner Entergy Nuclear has chosen the name Enexus Energy Corporation for Vermont Yankee and a number of other properties.

Entergy says Enexus is a combination of the words ``energy'' and ``nexus'' and is designed to convey what the company calls ``the appeal of reliable nuclear power.'' The company claims nuclear power is virtually emissions-free.

Enexus would become a separate legal entity spun off from a number of Entergy properties. It would be governed by its own board of directors and be based in Jackson, Mississippi.

Entergy is also considering changing its name to EquaGen LLC.
