UVM to pay tuition for low income students

Wednesday April 30, 2008

Burlington, VT (AP)

This fall, the University of Vermont will pay tuition and fees for some low-income Vermont students.

The program will pay more than $12,000 for tuition and fees. But room-and-board fees of $8,500 will not be covered.

Officials say the tuition program will help the school and state retain students and keep them enrolled without racking up debt.

UVM officials estimate that of the 600 incoming Vermont freshmen this year, about 150 will be eligible.
