VT Edition: Bob Stannard & Joyce Errecart on the Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Fund

Friday April 25, 2008
Bob Kinzel

Montpelier, VT

One of the most controversial bills of the session is legislation that deals with the decommissioning costs of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant.  There are concerns at the Statehouse that there may not be enough money in the state's decommissioning fund if the plant unexpectedly shuts down or if the owners of the plant encounter some serious business difficulties that force them into bankruptcy.  Why has this bill generated so much heated debate at the Statehouse?

Bob Stannard is a lobbyist for the anti-nuclear group Citizens Awareness Network.  Joyce Errecart is a Shelburne Representative.  They spoke with VPR's Bob Kinzel about what the bill means for Entergy and ratepayers, and whether the governor will veto the legislation.
