Champlain College helps African, Vietnamese and Bosnian refugees

Monday, 03/31/08 6:06am and 6:06am

- BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP)

When his family landed in Vermont three years ago, Rwandan refugee Jean-Luc Dushime didn't speak English.

But now he's at Champlain College in Burlington on a full scholarship, one of 16 refugee students from places like Vietnam, Bosnia and Sudan studying at the school.

College President David Finney says the investment by the school is worth it because the students from abroad contribute greatly to the diversity of the student body and the learning environment at the school.

Dushime says he hopes eventually to go to graduate school and to return to his homeland to put his education to work there.
