Student ground search called off because of storm

Monday March 10, 2008

Middlebury, Vt.

Middlebury police postponed a ground search yesterday for a missing Middlebury College student because of the weekend's freezing rain and snow.

Melting snow had improved conditions to search for clues in the disappearance of 19-year-old Nicholas Garza, who has been missing for more than a month.

But ice and snow over the weekend prompted police to cancel the search.

Garza, a freshman, disappeared shortly after 11 p.m. Feb. 5, after leaving a friend's dormitory.

His mother reported him missing five days later, after the college determined he had not left campus during winter break.
