Federal regulators are getting ready to issue their safety evaluation of Vermont Yankee's plan to stay open an extra 20 years.
Staff at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission are expected to release the evaluation Monday, a key milestone in the 35-year-old nuclear power plant's bid to operate past its scheduled 2012 closure.
Neil Sheehan, a spokesman for the NRC, says the draft date for the evaluation is Monday, but that an NRC subcommittee, could take until March 6th to sign off on the evaluation.
