The Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count is the oldest citizen-science project in the country.  Bird enthusiasts around the country gather over the course of three weeks to jot down sightings, and take photographs of early winter birds in their area.  It's sponsored by The Audubon Society, and is an annual tradition.  The count actually runs for three weeks, from December 14th to January 5th.

Bridget Butler is the Conservation Education Coordinator for Audubon Vermont.  She spoke with VPR's Jan Lindholm about the count and what birds we can expect to see in winter.
