The reports have been dire over the past several years-each one detailing the sliding rates of newspaper subscribers. Between April and September of this year daily circulation at the Boston Globe fell 6.6%. And the New York Times slid 4.5%. People are turning the pages of their paper less and less, and instead are clicking their way through news on the internet or other sources.

Vermonters who still like to hold a paper in their hands have several choices: big papers like the Boston Globe, New York Times, or USA Today, or local papers: The Burlington Free Press, The Valley News, the Caledonian Record, The Bennington Banner. VPR's Jane Lindholm spoke with Brad Robertson, the new publisher of the Burlington Free Press, and David Moats, an author and Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial writer at the Rutland Herald about the issue.
